I would have hoped that some of the Jodorowsky ideas would inform this version of Dune, particularly where the art direction and music were concerned. It is possible that some stuff that the Floyd probably started writing for the film found its way into the album Wish You Were Here and even later works. Now that’s a score I’d have loved to hear, particularly the Pink Floyd parts. With the likes of Pink Floyd, Magma, and Tangerine Dream set to produce the music. From what I hear, he had planned a score by a different progressive rock group for each of the houses in the corporate hierarchy that makes up the family of characters of Dune.
Now what I’d love to hear is the score that they had planned for the Jodorowsky’s version of Dune. His bad scores far outweigh his good though.Īs I said before, this score is not too bad, but no-where near as good as the Toto one. Zimmer has made some really decent scores over the years, but not to Williams true level.

Comparing him to John Williams is a non-starter, as John Williams has always been a genius, for his days as a Pianist for Henry Mancini on the Peter Gunn scores for the episodes of that series (…and especially its theme) right up to his latest and last work, on Star Wars IX (not a stellar final work, but then the film was terrible and he was probably influenced by that). I’d say… Meh! he’s ok sometimes, good but not remarkable. I’ve been reading the comments on this page, and they seem to differ wily between hate for Zimmer, and a love for his stuff.
